urban food forest garden tour

Before

    New River Homestead

The place I learn and grow the most is on my urban homestead in the food forest garden. I moved into this space in the spring of 2018 to a grass covered front lawn. The only edible plants on site were an orange tree that bore no fruit, a monstera, vine, and a kent mango in the backyard.

There are now over 150 edible, medicinal, useful plants in this small piece of land in our city. Beyond the food and medicine I receive from this space, the greatest gift that has come from it all is a place to learn, grow, and connect with the living world right outside my front door. To be able to walk into the garden first thing in the morning, gather herbs for tea, and enjoy it as butterfly and anoles greet the day beside me is a gift.

My intention in sharing this space with you is to show you the very real possibility of creating an oasis like this outside your front door, too.
